The Roads: Your quintessential Miami neighborhood

IMG_5828

Nestled between Brickell and Shenandoah, The Roads is one of Miamiā€™s most tranquil historic residential neighborhoods. Designed in 1922 by social real estate magnate, Mary Brickell, it is recognized for its wide tree-lined streets, opulent foliage and welcoming atmosphere. The broad streets here run off a 45-degree angle from the grid set in place for the rest of the city. Instead of streets or avenues, every road here is distinguishably numbered and named Road.

The Roads is a triangular area south of SW 11th Street, between SW 12th Avenue and SW 15th Road. Itā€™s intricate infrastructure was all part of Brickellā€™s vision to develop an inviting, pedestrian-friendly area for single-family homes. The neighborhood was so well anticipated that all the lots were sold in a single day on February 1st, 1923!

The Roads is an ideal place to live. It is central to much of Miamiā€™s sought after attractions and cultural centers such as the Perez Art Museum Miami, Adrienne Arsht Center, Miami Airlines Arena, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Key Biscayne and the Financial District to name a few. The Roads is also quickly accessible, parallel to major street Coral Way and coextending two Miami Metrorail train stations, Miami Metro-Mover, Miami-Metro Bus routes and Miami Trolley. Located within are various diverse places of worship and excellent private schools that include Temple Beth David, St. Sophia Greek orthodox Cathedral and La Prima Casa Montessori School.

This community has maintained its integrity and quality throughout the decades due to the proactive Neighborhood Association and vigorous city efforts to preserve its historic charm.
